About Bitcoinomics

Bitcoinomics is a small set of free tools built on one thing: the complete daily series of Bitcoin's price. There are no ads, no account, no tracking cookies and no paid tier.

All public, all keyless, all cited

Where the data comes from

CoinMetrics Community Network Data

Bitcoin's daily price since July 2010, which is the series the whole site runs on.

LBMA

Gold's afternoon benchmark price. It is the official fixing rather than a futures contract: for the question "how much gold does a bitcoin buy", the right answer is the metal, not a position that rolls.

S&P 500 total return

With dividends reinvested. The price index leaves them out and understates equities by hundreds of percentage points over this period — a bias that would run in bitcoin's favour.

US CPI (CPIAUCNS)

Not seasonally adjusted, on purpose: the adjusted series is revised every February for the prior five years, and that would rewrite history already published.

What this site does not do

It does not predict the price

Every model here describes where the price has been. None of them says where it will go, and the pages repeat that where it matters rather than burying it.

It does not sell anything

No ads, no affiliate links, no sponsors, no mailing list. If that ever changes, it will be said here before anywhere else.

It does not track you

No tracking cookies and no accounts. Visit statistics are aggregate and identify nobody.

Contact

Mistakes, questions about the method, or a figure that does not add up: write, and you will get an answer. A reader who spots a mistake is doing the work of the missing editor, and it gets fixed.
